Today I would like to talk about The Pareto principle, also known as the 80/20 rule.
The law states that, for many events, roughly 80% of the effects outcomes or rewards come from 20% of the causes.
In reality, it really doesn’t matter what numbers you apply.
It’s about understanding there are certain activities in life that account for the majority of your rewards.
This rule has helped me understand what I should be focusing on in every area of my life.
Now I plan my tasks in advance so I know exactly what my ideal day looks like and how to spend my time effectively.
Once you know what you can avoid wasting time on activities that provide you with little satisfaction.
Start by writing a list of all the outcomes you are responsible for in your role.
Then ask yourself which of the tasks do you enjoy the most and which of the tasks add the most value to your role.
By doing this you will quickly see how to get the best results from your efforts.
Sometimes eliminating time and resources is a smart choice because there are significant opportunity costs from focusing your energy in the wrong place.
So decide what you want and what you are willing to exchange for it, then establish your priorities and get to work!
I’m curious, how are you living by the 80/20 rule?
