Financial advisor Brisbane

Financial advisor for Brisbane tech executives and property owners

I’m Mike Sikar. I work with tech executives across Australia, including clients who live in Brisbane and many Sydney clients who own property there.

We meet on Teams, and I’m in Brisbane a couple of times a year for a coffee.

Who I help

Two kinds of Brisbane clients

Tech executives who live in Brisbane

Sales Directors, VPs and senior leaders at the global tech companies with Brisbane teams, plus plenty who work remotely for a Sydney or global team. They have the same mix as my Sydney clients: base, commission, RSUs and super.

Sydney clients with Brisbane property

This is the bigger group. Many of my Sydney clients bought investment houses in Brisbane over the last five or six years. Back then Brisbane was at the bottom of the cycle. You could buy a house on good land for $750K to $1.25M, and there was a lot of talk about the 2032 Olympics. Most of those clients have done very well.

My practice is built entirely around tech executives. I’ve been doing this for 18 years. Very few advisers in Australia specialise in tech, and the scope of advice I give, from RSUs and employee share plans to commission, super, property and structures, is hard to find in Brisbane. That’s why many Brisbane clients choose to work with a Sydney adviser.

What you get with us

  • A tech specialist. RSUs, ESPPs, commission and equity are the core of what I do.
  • Markets experience. 9 years in stockbroking as well as 18 years in financial planning.
  • Lending under the same roof. My in house mortgage broking team can restructure the loans on your Brisbane property and your home.
  • Retirement income modelling. Your property, RSUs and super, modelled together, so you know what your Brisbane gains are really worth to your retirement. See how it works.

Brisbane property

Brisbane has doubled. Now what?

Cotality’s figures show Greater Brisbane’s median house value went from $559,646 in September 2020 to $1,146,078 in September 2026. That’s roughly double in six years.

But it’s not rising every month anymore. Brisbane house values fell 4.9% in the September 2026 quarter.

So my clients with Brisbane property are all asking the same question: should I hold, sell, or use the equity? The answer depends on the rest of your plan.

  • Hold. If it’s in a good spot, the cash flow works and it fits your retirement plan.
  • Use the equity. Put some of the gain to work, for example in a share portfolio through debt recycling.
  • Sell. If it’s dragging on cash flow or leaves you too heavy in property. Gains made before 1 July 2027 keep the 50% CGT discount, even if you sell later, so there’s no deadline forcing your hand.

Tax and land tax

What to know about Queensland property tax

Queensland land tax applies once the taxable land value you own in Queensland passes $600,000 as an individual. For companies and trusts, the threshold is $350,000.

With land values up so much, plenty of investors who never paid Queensland land tax are now getting close to the threshold. Who owns the property matters, so we look at the structure before you buy, not after. See tax structuring.

And remember the 2026 Budget. If you buy another established property after 12 May 2026, from 1 July 2027 its losses can only be offset against residential property income, not your salary. Properties you held before Budget night keep the old rules until you sell.

None of this makes property a bad idea. I’ve always believed high income earners should use good debt. It’s about finding the right property. A lot of my clients are now looking at commercial property, which has higher rental income and keeps the old negative gearing rules.

Working together

How we work with Brisbane clients

Our office is in Sydney, so Brisbane clients meet with me on Teams. I’m in Brisbane about twice a year and catch up with clients for a coffee while I’m there.

If you’re in Sydney for work, come and see us at Level 26, 25 Bligh Street.

My team handles the paperwork, the lending and the implementation, all online. Being in a different state doesn’t change the advice or the service.

How it works

Turn your Brisbane gains into retirement income

Your Brisbane property is one piece of the puzzle. The Early Retirement Blueprint puts every piece on one page: property, RSUs, super and cash flow.

It shows how your assets can grow into $15K to $25K a month of retirement income, and when. It’s built in 30 days, costs $5,500 and comes with a 100% money back guarantee.

See how debt recycling worked for one client: the $700K debt recycling case study.

It starts with a free Early Retirement Clarity Call on Teams.

I work with around 150 clients and take on 4 new clients a month. Once we reach 200, my books close.

Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you have a Brisbane office?

No. Our office is in Sydney. Brisbane clients meet with me on Teams, and I see clients in person when I’m in Brisbane, about twice a year.

I live in Sydney but own property in Brisbane. Can you help?

Yes. It’s one of the most common situations I see. We look at the property alongside your super, RSUs and home loan, and work out the best next step.

Should I sell my Brisbane investment property before the CGT changes?

Not necessarily. Gains made before 1 July 2027 keep the 50% CGT discount, even if you sell later. Selling should be a plan decision, not a deadline decision.

Do I pay land tax on my Brisbane property?

Possibly. Queensland land tax applies to individuals above $600,000 of taxable land value in Queensland, and to companies and trusts above $350,000.

Why work with a Sydney adviser instead of someone in Brisbane?

Because specialist advice for tech executives is hard to find. Most advisers see a bit of everyone. My practice is built entirely around tech professionals: RSUs, employee share plans, commission, super and property. That depth is why clients in Brisbane choose to work with us, and Teams makes the distance a non issue.
